MATHARE YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL.
(MYFF)

"connecting youth through film."
MYFF is a film Organization from Kenya and around the world. It is registered as a Community Based Organization under the Ministry of youths, children and social development in Mathare. It helps young upcoming filmmakers to showcase their creativity through media arts and Since 2011, MYFF has been part of a global revolution through film by making and screening films about the issues that affects our society of today. We have fully dedicated ourselves in transforming the livelihoods of the inhabitants of Mathare and its environs. Using films as a tool to reach out change, to educate and combat sustainable development goals also creating young professional filmmakers and role models.
Using photography, film and other creative media arts as a platform of change. Apart from the screenings, MYFF conducts workshops on photography, Film making, journalism, poetry, new media, Entrepreneurship, mentorship, online tutorial (Local language) and leadership skills to youths from the Nairobi slums and surroundings. A key idea in MYFF is to make, Shoot and screen educative films about issues commonly facing the slum areas around the globe. The diversity and similarities of the films will shed some light on what life is like being young and living in a slum or underdeveloped area. The vision is to paint a more updated and less bleak picture of the lives of young people coping, enjoying and living in the slums of the world.
Film Festival
The Mathare Youth Film Festival aims to empower young artists to express their creativity, entertain audiences, and share their visions for a more just and sustainable world.  The festival is a designed for community engagement, young upcoming filmmakers, youth culture, networking and showcase for the richness and diversity of a new generation of filmmakers.
The festival trains, Mentors and screens short films made by young people from slum community, and tours different communities, cities in Kenya and other established film festivals.  
Exchange Program/ Internships
 
MYFF collaborates with any organization or institution with photography and film projects activities with aim to change, develop and connect youths through film.
It has been in exchange program with Norway, South Africa and Germany and other local Organisations. MYFF will be able to exchange ideas, make projects, participant and host long /shorter exchange programs and events.
 
MISSION:
  • To empower youth from slums of Mathare and neighbouring areas through photography and filmmaking.
  • To raise awareness amongst youths and community members through stories from the slum and Films.
  • To connect/create a youth network through photography and filmmaking.
  • To create young filmmakers and role models in the community.
  • To conduct online films
  • To change lives
 
VISION:
  • MYFF seeks to enable young people to tell stories about their everyday lives through the cameras, and in this way share experiences from the slums with the rest of their surroundings and the world. Giving perspectives to a global theme and future task for our youth.
ACTIVITIES:
Training Photography and Film making, Entrepreneurship, Youth Mentor-ship, Project Management , online tutorials, Film festival and exchange programs.
